Quick Look
What is Gastric Bypass Surgery?
Gastric bypass is a surgical procedure performed laparoscopically to both reduce the stomach volume and disable part of the small intestine. Patients with Type 2 Diabetes and obesity are ideal candidates for the gastric bypass surgery.

Preparing for Surgery
- Online and in-person consultations will be made to examine the patient, assess the medical history and to discuss the patient's expectations.
- The doctor will make note of allergies, chronic diseases and regular medications used by the patient.
- The anesthesist will have a consultation with the patient.
- The patient should quit smoking and avoid alcohol before the procedure.
- Specific dietary guidelines provided by the surgeon must strictly be followed before the surgery.
- Patients must stop taking Aspirin, all other NSAIDs and blood thinners, Omega 3 supplements and herbal teas before surgery.
The Surgical Process
Small incisions are made in the abdomen for the laparoscopy after which the upper part of the stomach is cut and a pouch is formed. This pouch is later directly connected to the middle part of the small intestine. After surgery food passes from the pouch directly yo the middle part of small intestine, bypassing the first part of the small intestine.
The surgery is performed under general anesthesia and takes 1.5-2 hours.

The Post-Operative Process
- Nausea, cramps and pain are normal and will be managed with medications.
- You may get back to work 2-4 weeks after surgery.
- Specific dietary guidelines provided by the surgeon must strictly be followed after the surgery.
- The surgeon will be available for online and in-person consultations after the surgery for necessary follow-ups.
