What is Tummy Tuck?

Tummy tuck, also referred to as abdominoplasty is a cosmetic surgery to create a flat and firm tummy by removing excess fat and skin. Tummy that has lost its elasticity due to previous pregnancy and weight fluctuations is corrected with the procedure. Patients who wish to undergo tummy tuck usually have pregnant-like bellies.

Preparing for Surgery

1. Online and in-person consultations will be made to examine the patient, assess the medical history and to discuss the patient's expectations.
2. Before surgery patients should reach and maintain their ideal weight.
3. The doctor will make note of allergies, chronic diseases and regular medications used by the patient.
4. Blood tests will be carried out before the operation.
5. The anesthesist will have a consultation with the patient.
6. The patient should quit smoking and avoid alcohol a few weeks before surgery.
7. Patients must stop taking Aspirin and all other blood thinners, Omega 3 supplements and herbal teas.

The Surgical Process

Tummy tuck is performed through an incision in the lower abdomen. Liposuction may also accompany the procedure if necessary. The surgery is performed under general anesthesia and lasts for 1-2 hours.

The Post-Operative Proces

• After the operation 1-3 days of hospital stay is required.
• You will have drains in place for a few days.
• Swelling is expected for a few days after surgery.
• You may get back to work 2-4 weeks after surgery.
• A supportive abdominal garment will be worn as advised by the surgeon.
• The surgeon will be available for online and in-person consultations after the surgery for necessary follow-ups.
