What is Butt Lift and Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) surgery?

Butt lift is a surgical procedure that entails removing excess skin and fat to offer a firmer and more toned look. Individuals with excess, sagging skin around the buttocks prefer to undergo butt lift surgery.

The Brazilian Butt Lift on the other hand is a procedure that involves fat transfer to create a fuller and rounder appearance of the buttocks. BBL consists of obtaining fat by liposuction from other body parts like thighs, abdomen or hips and later injecting it to the buttocks.

Preparing for Surgery

1. Online and in-person consultations will be made to examine the patient, assess the medical history and to discuss the patient's expectations.
2. The doctor will make note of allergies, chronic diseases and regular medications used by the patient.
3. Blood tests will be carried out before the operation.
4. The anesthesist will have a consultation with the patient.
5. The patient should quit smoking 6 weeks before surgery.
6. Patients must stop taking Aspirin and all other blood thinners, Omega 3 supplements and herbal teas.

The Surgical Process

Traditional butt lift procedure is more suitable for patients with excess sagging skin due to aging and weight loss. It provides a tighter and smoother skin but does not augment the buttocks. Incisions will be made where the lower back meets the buttocks and the buttocks will be raised.

For BBL, liposuction from other parts of the body is the first step. Fat obtained will then be processed and injected into the buttocks for a more volume.

The surgery is performed under general anesthesia and lasts 2-3 hours.

The Post-Operative Process

Traditional Butt Lift

• After the operation 1 night admission in the hospital is required.
• Moderate pain after the operation is expected.
• Drains will be in place for a few weeks after surgery.
• A few days following the operation you will wear a supportive garment.
• You may get back to work 2-3 weeks after surgery.
• The surgeon will make periodic follow-up consultations after the surgery.

Brazilian Butt Lift

• After the operation 1 night admission in the hospital is required.
• Moderate pain after the operation is expected.
• After 1-2 weeks pain should subside.
• Compression garments will be worn for 1 month.
• You may get back to work 10 – 14 days after surgery.
