What is a Hair Transplant?
Hair transplant is a procedure where healthy hair follicles are collected from the patient and re-placed to areas where the patient has loss of hair. The transplant can not only be performed on the head for hairline but also on the beard, mustache and eyebrows. The procedure can be performed on both men and women.
Who is a good candidate for Hair Transplant?
Patients above age 25, who have healthy hair on the back and sides of the head and have male or female-pattern baldness are good candidates for hair transplant.
How is a Hair Transplant performed?
Hair transplant is performed with local anesthesia and may take several hours depending on the size of area where hair will be implanted. After the operation, patients will wear a special head bandage and will be discharged the same day.
Can a Hair Transplant be repeated?
For some patients, multiple hair transplant sessions may be necessary, depending on each specific case. A 6-12 month interval is suggested between sessions.
How is the recovery process of Hair Transplant?
There may be some pain and inflammation following the procedure which will subside with medications provided. Most patients return to work within 2-5 days. The implanted hair will fall out 2-3 weeks after surgery and this is completely normal. The transplanted hair will grow back in 3-4 months. In 6-9 months new hair growth will be obvious and in 12-18 months the final results will settle.
