Quick Look
What is Liposuction?
Liposuction is the surgical removal of fat tissue from different parts of the body. While women usually prefer the procedure for hips, tummy, thighs, arms and jowl men usually choose to have it for waist, breast and tummy areas of the body. Liposuction does not entirely get rid of cellulite yet provides a smoother skin surface. On the other hand, saggy skin due to weight fluctuations or pregnancy cannot be treated with liposuction and would require additional procedures like a tummy tuck.

Preparing for Surgery
- Online and in-person consultations will be made to examine the patient, assess the medical history and to discuss the patient's expectations.
- The doctor will make note of allergies, chronic diseases and regular medications used by the patient.
- Blood tests will be carried out before the operation.
- The anesthesist will have a consultation with the patient.
- The patient should quit smoking a fe weeks before surgery.
- Patients must stop taking Aspirin and all other blood thinners, Omega 3 supplements and herbal teas.
The Surgical Process
There are a variety of liposuction methods and the surgeon will pick the most suitable one for each patient's specific case. Below are methods frequently used.
- Suction Assisted Liposuction (SAL)
- It is performed under general or local anesthesia. A liquid mix is injected to the area after which 2 mm incisions are made and 3mm tubes are inserted and fat is suctioned out.
- Ultrasonic Liposuction (UAL)
- This method specifically targets the desired fat cells to be removed exclusively through sound waves. Surrounding tissues are not damaged.
- Power-Assisted Liposuction (PAL)
- This method is used for larger areas and uses motorized cannulas for a more precise fat removal.
- Water-Assisted Liposuction (WAL)
- This method uses water and inserted cannulas to remove fat. It doesn't damage underlying and surrounding structures and allows for fat to removed intact.
- Radiofrequency-Assisted Liposuction (RFAL)
- RFAL uses radiofrequency to liquify and remove the fat through cannulas. Since radiofrequency also promotes collagen production, a firmer skin is also achieved.
The surgery lasts 1-3 hours and may be performed under general or local anesthesia depending on methods used.

The Post-Operative Process
- After the operation 1 night hospital stay may be required.
- Moderate pain is expected for a few days after surgery.
- You may get back to work 2-7 days after surgery.
- Compression garments will be worn as advised by the surgeon.
- The surgeon will be available for online and in-person consultations after the surgery for necessary follow-ups.
